Dr. Callan Cooper

Meet Dr. Callan Cooper

DVM, MS
Dr. Cooper grew up in Texas with pets of all kinds, from snakes and birds to dogs, cats, and horses. After attending UT Austin, she headed north for new adventures, straight to the University of Wisconsin–Madison. She completed graduate training in cognitive science and worked in the medical tech field, but as a lifelong animal lover, she always found true fulfillment by volunteering at wildlife rescues and animal shelters in her spare time. She decided to turn her love for animals into a profession, and ultimately returned to UW Madison to become a DVM!

During the years since, Dr. Cooper and her wife have called the Pacific Northwest and Colorado home, but they are delighted to be returning to put down roots in Wisconsin.

Dr. Cooper’s professional experience includes emergency and critical care, as well as general practice medicine. She cares deeply about the human-animal bond and stress-free handling: Dr. Cooper is Fear-Free certified and is also a certified crazy cat lady (AKA a Cat-Friendly Practitioner with the American Association of Feline Practitioners). She is particularly passionate about the intersection of mobility, aging, and pain management. She is currently training as a practitioner of evidence-based acupuncture, and looks forward to adding this to her practice. She also deeply enjoys urgent care cases, dermatology and allergy management, and cardiology.

When not at work, Dr. Cooper can be found spending time with her wife and daughter, hiking with their two big yellow dogs, managing a small fleet of delightfully bizarre cats, or hanging out with her lovely Lipizzaner horse.
