Understanding Hidden Signs of Illness
When your pet isn’t feeling themselves, you want them to feel better as soon as possible, and so do we! Pets can’t let us know what hurts. We are here to give them a voice. Our furry, feathered, and scaled companions tend to be excellent at hiding pain, which can be especially dangerous as conditions progress to more severe stages. Gaining a total picture of your pet’s health is essential. Keep in mind, the sooner we diagnose and treat your pet, the greater the likelihood of treatment success. At Truesdell Animal Care Hospital and Clinic, we offer a wide range of diagnostic services to address common and more advanced conditions.
In-House Laboratory
Lab work is a vital component of preventive care, making sure everything is okay on the inside.
Our in-house lab is equipped to analyze an array of diagnostic work efficiently and accurately. Often, we are able to share results with you within minutes! We commonly test skin scrapings, urinalysis, various bloodwork, and much more. If your pet needs a less common or non-urgent test, we may utilize an outside lab.
Digital Radiology
Instant results, high-definition images and easy sharing makes digital x-rays an invaluable diagnostic tool. Capable of capturing an image on your pet’s internal bodily systems within seconds, we can share results with you almost immediately. This is also beneficial if a specialist is needed.
Safe and non-invasive, digital x-rays help us to pinpoint bone fractures and breaks, bladder stones, foreign objects, tumors, intestinal blockages, heart disease, liver disease, kidney disease, chronic arthritis, spinal cord conditions, and much more.
Endoscopy*
Endoscopy is a minimally invasive procedure that makes use of a long and flexible tube with an attached camera, inserted into the stomach or colon of your pet while they’re sedated in order to view the inner workings of your pet’s stomach, esophagus, small intestine, and/or colon. Usually, endoscopies are used to look for and identify abnormalities, swelling, scarring, or other issues.
If after an initial exam we determine that an endoscopy may be necessary to get a closer look, we’ll always discuss this with you before proceeding.
Ultrasound*
Advanced ultrasound technology allows us to see what is going on inside! By visually examining internal bodily systems, we are able to pinpoint areas of pain and concern. Abnormalities are assessed by checking tendons, muscles, joints, and internal organs. Not to mention, this amenity is non-invasive!
Echocardiograms*
An echocardiogram, also known as an echo or cardiac ultrasound, is a diagnostic tool for looking closely at the heart as well as inside and around it. An echo uses high frequency sound waves to create live images, allowing veterinarians to get an idea of what the heart looks like and how it is functioning in real time. This provides information about the size, shape, and function of the heart, its four chambers, the heart valves, and surrounding structures, such as the pericardial sac.
Note*: We regularly have an outside specialist come in for ultrasounds, endoscopies, and echocardiograms. Please note that the wait time on these tests is typically 1-2 weeks.
